Stotesbury Cup Regatta

Gloucester Crew had a trip full of high points and low points. The Men's Junior4 put up the 7th fastest time in time trials then went on to get second in their semifinal and eventually take silver in the final after leading for most of the race. The Women's senior 4 put up the 6th fastest time in time trials then took second in their semifinal and 5th in their final. The Men's Senior double narrowly missed making it out of time trials finishing in 13th place in a 12 boat qualifier event just 9/100 of a second behind 12th. This finish marked the closest margin between two boats in the entire regatta. The Men's Lightweight 4 had a similar finish taking 19th in an 18 boat qualifier by 3 seconds. The team spent this season largely trying to rebuild after the loss of many excellent seniors last year. With a strong Novice crew and a returning varsity of 7 for next year we should see great success in the seasons to come.

States

All boats returned from the Virginia State championships on Saturday May the 10th with a medal. The results page has details regarding times and places but this is the first time as far as can be remembered that Gloucester Crew has placed in every event entered. This is great news and bodes well for some success this coming weekend at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta.

The start of the 2008 season

The 2008 spring season kicked off with a bang on february 25th. The turnout was enormous. After a tough first week for all the new and out of shape novices the team is still comprised of approximately 50 members. Many of these people are already showing promise after just a week. The spring looks to be a bright one with a solid core of returning varsity rowers and plenty of young blood to choose from.

The team also purchased it's first ever brand new boat in the form of a red Hudson midweight 4. Who the boat will be rowed by this season is yet to be decided but it will be a major part of the Gloucester fleet.

The end of the 2007 season

The spring 2007 season concluded with nothing but success. Gloucester took 3 medals at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, 2 at the SRAA nationals, and finished first in a petite final at the US Rowing youth nationals.

US Rowing Youth Nationals

The men's senior 4(Tucker Witt, Jordan Martin, Jon Lothian, Vas Markantonatos, and cox Anthony Manzanares) traveled alone to this regatta. They began the weekend taking last place in their heat. US rowing uses a double elimination system however and they were given another shot at the title. They won their repechage giving them a berth in the second semi-final. Here they took fourth place again putting them into the Petite final. The petite final was their time to shine and they won it. It should also be noted that their time of 7:24 was the third fastest time of all of the men's youth 4 finals.

SRAA Nationals

and

Stotesbury Cup Regatta

SRAA - 5 Gloucester boats traveled to the SRAA nationals. The Men's senior and junior fours, the women's double, the men's single, and the women's junior 4 all competed. The men's Senior 4 performed exceptional as usual and won their event for the Gold Medal, beating out Father judge who took 1st at Stotesbury the week before. The women's double finished the regatta with a bronze medal. The women's junior 4 took silver in their final. The men's junior 4 and single both failed to make it out of heats.

Stotes- 5 boats also went to this regatta. The women's junior 4 took the gold by an impressive margin. The Men's Senior 4 took silver in a dead race for first, second, and third and only lost by a second. The women's double also took silver in their final. The men's junior4+ and mens 1x both ended their racing in time trials.
